I have to say a huge Congratulation to my friends Lauren & Tyler, as they became proud parents! On July 1st Lauren gave birth to Jack Alexander Tamai. He is a happy & healthy 2 ½ month old! Here’s a picture, look how cute he is!

Okay our 4th of July was a horrible one! My brother in law Peekay had been going back & fourth to the hospital because he had hurt his back at work. The hospital “Not Kaiser” would push him full of IV pain meds & send him home just to be in pain. So Jenn, Peekay, & Phoenix came over for the 4th of July. We ended up calling 911 because Peekay was in so much pain. The Ambulance came & we requested Peekay go to a different hospital. This new hospital admitted him & decided an M.R.I. needed to be done. The Doctors found Peekay had a completely blown disk in his back & he had emergency surgery on July 5th to remove it. He is able to use a cane to walk but his health status is up in the air. Please think good thoughts that he doesn’t have to have more surgery.

Okay for those of you who missed my 22nd Birthday Party at Dave & Busters you missed out! We had a complete Mexican Buffet.

My family & Friends came, My nurses, even my friend & nurse Mia who has been helping out over in Dubai for the past year, she & her husband have 1 more year over there. I had a very, very, surprise special guest.. My Aunt Cheryl & Dick Lewis AKA Dr. Bigtime & head of security for the Chargers. They had a special gift for Me.. San Diego Chargers Runningback Darren Sproles!!! My favorite player!! I could not believe it when he walked in to our party room at Dave & Busters! He was so nice! My parents didn’t have a clue he was coming but I decided to wear my Charger shoes that day because they are comfy.. Well Darren Sproles signed my shoe! Not to mention I also got a signed Sproles Jersey!! Thank you Aunt Cheryl & Mr. Lewis! Dr. Shoemaker was even able to come later & hang out which was a blast! I hope your ankle is feeling better Jack! Thank you everyone for coming! A very special thank you to my mom & dad for throwing me the best birthday bash ever, I love you!

However on my birthday date July 17th I received the news that Suzanne’s dad Boston Bob had pancreatic Cancer. Suzanne made it to Boston on the 19th she saw him & then he went to be in the arms of the angels. We miss him horribly but Suzanne & I say he’s up there eating jumbo bags of M&M’s, he’s gotten the famous Heart Shaped Tattoo he wanted, & he sits on the stage & watches Eve sing. You will be missed!

Also Bob Langhorst who was a big supporter of the Rainforest Project passed away. I’m sure he’s up with all the children who went before him & taking care of his birds which he loved! Our logo for the Rainforest is the Toucan. We were having a naming contest for the Toucan but we closed it down. Dan Evers & I always said the Rainforest will go on in Bob’s memory. I am very pleased to introduce to you “Toucan Bob” You will be missed!

I want to Congratulate my best friends Raquel & her husband Gareth on being the newest set of parents in my circle of friends! Raquel gave birth to their son Enrique Maden on July 30th. Even though he came 14 days early he weighed in at a healthy 8lbs. I was able to go to Kaiser & hold him, what a joy! Here’s a picture of the sweet angel!

May 01, 2009.

Hello from Jessica

Jessica developed a 102 degree fever this wednesday and thursday. She was preliminaryly diagnosed with strep throat. She went to urgent care on thursday night and the doctor did a throat culture and gave her antibiotics to combat the infection. She is doing better today, her fever broke and even though her throat is sore and it is hard to swallow, she is fighting off the infection.

She wanted to bring attention to the fact that she is still doing things for trevorstoybox.org "Trevors toy box" and also she is still planning for her benefit in September.

Thank you to all the people who are offering prayers and good wishes for her speedy recovery.

Love from Jessica and Family.

April 23, 2009.

Hello from Jessica

Jessica is recovering slowly from her surgeries. She had not been able to make use of her computer due to the cast on her hand and she says that she will begin responding to all the emails and such when she can.

Her hosting site was hit by a virus and was down for about a week untill other arrangements could be made. Hopefully that will not happen again anytime soon, What a mess.

Jessica is scheduled to see Dr. Shoemaker today and she expects that he will take blood and xrays of her hand, also that he will probably want to change the cast. She still is in pain and it is hard for her to sit in her wheelchair for any period of time.

Thank you to all of the nurses and doctors and people who sent prayers and good wishes for her speedy recovery. This was one of the shortest stays, in the hospital that she had to make.

Love to all from

Jessica and family

April 5, 2009.

Hello from Jessica

Jessica came home from the hospital yesterday at about 3:00 pm. She is still in a lot of pain and is on pain meds. She is very glad to be back home. There were no complications during or after this series of surgeries, she was able to avoid having any intestinal problems. Mary Ann will be able to get some rest after sleeping in the hospital reclining chair and having to be awakened every 2 hours to move Jessica.

Thanks to everyone for their prayers and good wishes.

March 30, 2009.

Hello from Jessica

I was able to talk briefly with Jessica this evening she is doing alright, and although she is still in a lot of pain, she seems to be doing better in the recovery after surgery than in previous times. She had a bad reaction to morphine in one of her previous surgeries, and as a result, the doctor's advised against it for her pain control. Dr. Shoemaker tried to give her a measured and closely monitored dose and the results were that she had no bad reaction. This allows them to use this as a pain killer, and it is able to manage her pain better than the other drugs available.

I'll try to keep you up to date on any new occurances. Your prayers and good wishes and all of your love is appreciated.

Love to all

From Jessica and family.

March 27, 2009.

Hello everyone.

Jessica is out of surgery and in recovery, everything went well. Dr Shoemaker worked on relieving the problem with her tail bone and another doctor worked on her hand to restore feeling to her thumb and to straighten out the bend to the wrong direction. The nerve to her thumb was freed from the scar tissue and was able to be used to get the nerve messages to her thumb.

As of 12:00 Midnight her hand and tail bone were giving a lot of pain and the nurses were monitoring her closely for any problems.

Keep up the prayers and good wishes for her speedy recovery and we hope no complications.

Love to all

From Jessica and family.

March 26, 2009.

Hello Everyone!
March 19, 2009

I hope this update finds you well! We had my pre-op appointment with Dr. Shoemaker today & it is all systems go for my surgery on the 27th!! Now I really have to focus on staying healthy! I mean this in the most loving way possible. If you are or have been sick within the last few days, please let’s keep our distance for now. I am really looking forward to getting out of pain.

I was able to attend the Kaiser Kids Zoo Day and see my friends including my buddy Trevor. We did some arts and crafts, and then we were lucky enough to get to feed the Giraffe’s! Then we were able to see a few animal presentations and we were able to see how animals and their trainers work together! Thank you Kaiser and the Zoo it was an awesome day!

This weekend is kind of a busy one. My family & I were invited to Trevor’s 5th birthday party on Saturday. I’m sure it will be a blast! Speaking of Trevor please take a moment to visit trevorstoybox.org "Trevors toy box" this foundation was started by Trevor and his family after Trevor spent a lot of time in the hospital. They are going to collect and donate toys and games to kids and teens in hospitals. The link will also be on my “Favorite Links” page. On Sunday we are also going to go out to brunch to celebrate my sisters birthday!

I will be updating one more time next week and then my uncle will be updating my site via my parents during this surgery and recovery to keep everyone informed. I know the surgery will go great and I have complete faith in Dr. Shoemaker and his team. I love getting visitors and cards. If you would like to send a card please mail it to my home address: Jessica Smith 221 Inkopah St. Chula Vista CA 91911. My dad will make sure to bring me anything I receive. As far as visitors my family will be handling those. I’ll have my uncle post the hospitals address. Thank you so much for your prayers and well wishes! Please check back soon!

Love,

Jessica & Family

Hello Everyone!

February 12, 2009 I hope this update finds you well! My family and I are very pleased to say we received a call from Dr. Shoemaker’s surgery coordinator. We now have a surgery date of Friday March 27th. I am so excited to be able to get out of pain and resume a “normal" life. I want so badly to get out and do things that for now I’ve put on “an After Surgery List” Such simple things as taking my nephew places. Or going out to lunch, as well as keeping my promise to my Little Buddy Trevor and going with him to Disneyland since he is now Cancer Free! (Or buggy free as he says)

I have Pre-Op with Dr. Shoemaker on March 19th to lay out the final plans. Including a meeting with a team to speak about my Illieus and being proactive after surgery. As well as another doctors appointment to make sure I’m healthy. I have complete faith in Dr. Shoemaker & his team I know things will go fine!

I will write another update after the pre-op to keep everyone posted on the next steps..

As for current things I can’t believe my nephew Phoenix is already 6 months! Wow time does fly!

As we all know everyone hits bumps in the road so at this point I’ll ask you to send a few good thoughts and prayers to Eve Selis & family.

Thank you for the continued love & support!

Have A Happy Valentines Day!

Love,

Jessica & Family

Happy New Year! January 11, 2009

I hope the start of 2009 finds all of you doing well! Christmas was wonderful for our family this year as it was Phoenix’s first Christmas and it was great to be able to celebrate it with him! Santa was very good to him it looked like Toys R Us in our living room! Next year will be even better since he will be able to understand it more.

Dr. Shoemaker & his family made it back from New Zealand and I was able to get in to see him. Since I am still in a lot of pain and I really have trouble sitting due to pain we have decided to go ahead with surgery. Basically you have 2 “sits bones” 1 under your left leg and one under your right. My sits bone on my Right side is more primate. When you have a scoliosis surgery to fix a curve your body will lean more to one side then the other. I ended up leaning more to the right so on top of having a prominant sits bone I am also putting more weight on my right side. So Dr. Shoemaker is going to go in and shave the right side down and try to distribute my weight equally. This is in a risky area and there is go guarantee it will take the pain away. I need to give this surgery a chance because I believe it will help. The nerves in my thumb got entangled in scar tissue, so he is also going to fix that so I can get feeling back in my thumb. Dr. Shoemaker is a wonderful doctor and I know I have the best doctor on my side. However I will always take extra prayers. I’ll let you know when I get a surgery date.

Thank You For Your Continued Love & Support Jessica & Family

Thank you all for voting!!!

Thank you Dan Evers, Without you we wouldn't have "The Rainforest"!

Thank you to everyone who believed in us at Kaiser!! Thank you Mr. & Mrs. Langhorst!

Thank you to the amazing Mr. Ron Roberts who nominated us!!!

Most of all thank you who voted because you took the extra time to vote and let your voice be heard!!

Woo Hoo!! Here we come!! There's No Stopping "US" Now!!! Thank you all!!

Over the weekend we decided to hold a garage sale. A man came by and purchased a watch, that we had, that had belonged to my Grampa, and left. He came back, later in the day, as he remembered that we had put out several old wooden cigar boxes, that were full of old stuff, that had belonged to my Grandpa. He then purchased the boxes and left.

The next day we hear a knock on the door and there he is. He had found a medal that belonged to my Grandpa, and inscribed on the back, was his name. He had come back to return the medal and to inform us that he had known my Grandpa from his days in the navy. They had been very good friends and worked together, and he had been made a chief, in the navy, together with my Granddad, on the same day.

Talk about a small world.

I wanted to let everyone know that my Uncle Dave has written a book! "The Amazing Adventures Of Mace" I think it is a good book for pre teens, teens, or heck maybe everyone! I'll let you be the judge, just head on over to my "Links Page" and check out "The Amazing Adventures Of Mace" or you can go directly to the purchase link at "adventuresofmace.com".

Also if you happen to have a "kindle" from Amazon you can download it there at this link "http://www.amazon.com/The-Amazing-Adventures-of-Mace/dp/B001B63SFG"

I'll update more later!

Hello Everyone!

November 3, 2008

I hope everyone is doing well! This has been a fun but yet interesting few weeks. First of all a HUGE Thank you to everyone who came out and walked or donated to The United Cerebral Palsy No Limits Walk, together my team “Jessica’s Java Junkies raised over $400.00!!

Halloween was a ton of fun this year! After All this was my nephew Phoenix’s first Halloween! Since he is all of 3 months old! Not to worry he still got all dressed up, he was our little tigger! He even got a Trick or Treat Bucket from us filled with toys, formula, and candy for mom and Dad!

phoenix Halloween night was a lot of fun because my best little buddy Trevor also known as my little brother wanted to come over and Trick or Treat with me!! I was a Scarecrow and Trevor was Batman! He also got a Trick or Treat Bucket filled with all his favorites, Red Tootsie Pops, Fruit Snacks, Animal Crackers, and some other yummy treats. We went around my neighborhood to the houses that were open, came back home, hung out, and played “The Price Is Right Board Game” It was a Wonderful Halloween!

trevor

trevor2 On Sunday Morning my family and I were honored to be invited to Trevor’s Baptism! Trevor did so well! Then we went over to the Church Hall to have a little party. We were so honored to be a part of his Special Day!

Then we came home and celebrated my Uncle Dave’s Birthday with his favorite dinner and Apple Pie!

While Dr. Shoemaker is in New Zealand we are trying to get all the needed tests done so we can make a plan to get me out of pain hopefully sometime early next year. Its my own personal opinion that the pain is being caused by another bone spur. So today November 3rd we had my MRI. It was pretty bad, picture yourself being inside a life sized jack hammer for 30 minutes or so. It has given me a headache and I’ve felt pretty icky today. Next time I think I’ll opt for some medicine to make me relax. Lets hope I won’t have to have another for awhile and the test will show what we need it to so we can keep moving forward. We should get the results within 7 to 10 days and I’ll keep you informed as to our next steps.

If you are interested in getting me to speak at your event please feel free to contact me.

Please continue to pray for all of my friends including Trevor as he is still going through his treatments. Feel better soon David King! I also want to say Welcome to the World Oliver James!

Thank you for your continued love and support!

Hello everyone;

August 08, 2008

Jessica is home from the hospital. She was able to eat solid food last night and that is one of the things that says that she has recovered from her ileus. This time it was caught early and as a result restoring fluids and some resting of her digestion seems to have been all that she needed to recover.

Jessica is anxiously awaiting the birth of Jennifer and P. K.’s son Phoenix.. He is supposed to arrive today but it seems he’s not ready to make his debut. Jennifer, however is ready to evict him, as soon as he is ready.

Mary Ann is busy switching from packing for one hospital visit to unpacking and packing for another visit when the baby comes. Thank you all for your prayers and good wish’s.

Love,

Jessica & Family

Hello everyone,

August 4,2008

Jessica was admitted to the hospital late Sunday night. She has started to develop another ileus, which has caused her to be very dehydrated, as well as, having all of the other stomach distress symptoms that usually accompany this.
She is eagerly awaiting the eminent birth of her Sisters child Phoenix, and says that come hell or high water. she wants to be present when Jennifer gives birth.
Your good wishes and prayers for her speedy recovery are, as always, appreciated and she will continue to keep you informed about the events as they occur.

Love to everyone

Well For Those Of You Who Didn't Believe Me
When I Said I Road A Harley... Here It Is,,
CAUGHT ON TAPE!!!

Happy Summer Everyone!
I have a Doctor's Appointment with Dr. Shoemaker tomorrow to figure out where we go from here regarding my butt pain, so I will keep you posted.

Last night we had the pleasure of going to the San Diego Enforcers Banquet! Kimberly King's husband David is in law enforcement, and the Enforcers Football Team is made up of Police, Firefighters, etc. Of San Diego County. All of the money that they make from ticket sales, food sales goes To The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and they were presented the check last night at the Banquet. It was An Amazing night to be a part of! I also got presented with An Authentic Enforcers Jersey with my favorite number on it, 88 which is Dave King's number!

We are still awaiting the arrival of my nephew Phoenix Farrell Kelso who should come into this world anywhere from late July to early August, I can hardly wait!

On July 17th I turn the big 21!! We are having a nice party on July 20th. It's for all ages out at Santee Lakes, please let me know if you didn't get your Evite.

Have a Happy & Safe 4th Of July!

Love,

Jessica & Family

March 21, 2008

Hello everyone. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to write a new update. A big thank you top my uncle and Anita for keeping you all up to date. I am doing well right now. My lab test results all came back within normal range. We are still waiting on results of the ultrasound, but I am feeling upbeat. Eve and I are finally going to get together, with a tattoo artist, to get a heart shaped tattoo.

I also have some very joyous news to share with you all. I will become an aunt for the first time in August. My sister Jennifer and her husband are expecting their first child, it's a boy. I can't wait for August. So far mommy and baby are doing well.

I have some more exciting new to pass along. We have a date for the third annual Cerebral Palsy/Rain Forest benefit. Mark your calendars for Saturday, September, 13, 2008. Eve Selis and her wonderful band, will be joining us for another evening of entertainment and surprises. More information will be announced as available. I want to take a moment to thank everyone who provided toys for Trevor. His family was amazed and truly grateful. Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart.

Have a happy and safe Easter.

Love,
Jessica and family

Hello from Jess

Jess went to the urgent care facility at Kaiser after she developed an additional pain in her lower back. She was still taking antibiotics for her ear infection and inhalers for her bronchitis but with this new pain they found she had another floating kidney stone and a kidney infection. It doesn't rain but it pours. Anyway, they gave her additional antibiotics to combat the infection and arranged for the doctor to examine a culture and took a cat scan to determine if the stone needed to be blasted with ultrasound as before. We'll keep you posted on the results.

Thanks from Jessica and family.
